Episode 7: THEIR PATH IS NOT YOUR PATH | Unscripted Saturdays

We spend our whole lives learning from others. We often receive ample mentorship along our path as an artist - but there is a pitfall in this. We often try to model our lives off of others as well, and feel like we've done something wrong when we haven't been able to emulate their success. In this episode, we discuss the idea that skill acquisition is only part of the story of a well lived life...

FUJIFILM GFX 100 II : 6IX CRAZY DAYS
Thank you for the helpful and informative comparison video! Good luck and keep creating!
Are there any issues with hdmi out to monitor/recorder ninja V changing the autofocus performance? This is an issue on the gh6
This is not the run of the mill RUclips video about simulations, it's a masterclass Color Science of Film. Excellent work, thanks for sharing your knowledge with us.
Fuji's simulations are very impressive but imo the closest you can get to making a digital file look like a film scan is with Dehancer.
Amazing video! btw i prefer to don't lock pan when i leave camera, so if someone from crew suddenly hit the cam, it makes turnaround and compensate that hit
… a great investment to get Michael talking like a grown-up photographer. What a pro he is. I’ll be back, if Michael comes back. Congrats on a video that is head and shoulders above the crowd.
Hi, with this camera you can capture in 102, 50 and 11mp average modes or only 102?
What would be the reason for using an A9III for this type and style of photography? I think I would chose an A7RV any day of the week; same tracking abilities, much higher resolution which is nice for fine art prints, two-third of the price of an A9III. Second choice would be the A1. I don't see this photography style as one of the A9III's strengths, other than maybe for use with flashes. The photos and locations are beautiful though.
5:25 my trick to using tape is wrap something else around it like from a plastic bag and then use tape. over that. cable won't get messy glue on it
Great tip! I'll be honest - that never occurred to me. I could see it being a bit of challenge with speed is required, but definitely helpful in certain situations. Thanks for sharing!
This is great! One wee question. My C-stands all have a 5/8" (or is it 1/4"?) nipple in the center of the legs, at the bottom, pointing downward. The only thing I can imagine this being used for is possibly mounting a camera upside-down, just above the floor. And that seems like an odd idea. What's the purpose of this connector?
I've never seen anything like this. Do you have link to a photo online (since you can't upload photos to a YT comment)?
I loved your explanation of film color and emotion, I’d listen to you talk for hours about why certain film were given characteristics to evoke certain emotions
Very kind comment! Thank you!! I'm always super fascinated by this stuff - but some of it is no longer really researchable. Lots of proprietary/trade information that is withheld from public access, or those who designed them may not longer be alive, etc. Much of what we know is just what was printed or communicated at the time, which is insightful but rarely the whole story.
Great vid, particularly found the cropping / alt lense equivalent info super helpful. Oh, but the VI is the successor to the V, not the predecessor 😉
Yeah, sorry for the narration error. Things happen when I have to pump out videos quickly... Thanks for the love, none-the-less!
I really think it would be pretty disappointing if all cameras with the Expeed 7 processor (Z9, Z8 and Zf) don’t get the imaging cloud or Flexible colour update in a future firmware update…
The real world medium format is the best image on screen or grading color.
Why is there no flange back adjustment on the FX9? Thanks
Film is passe, eh. I used to use Kodachrome and Fujichrome. I have a few rolls of frozen slide film, from centuries ago. Film is expensive, polluting, limited, nonsense fad, blah blah. Tin foil hat.
Interesting. Thanks. toronto. Dust on the sensor would worry me, on any fixed lens camera. I use Panasonic m43 gear. My version of the Fuji x100 is Panasonic GM1 with the Pan 14mm f2.5.
YOU EITHER GET IN THERE OR YOU'RE NOT GONNA GET THE SHOT! WELL SAID!!! LOVE THE FRAMES! 💯🤘🏾🤘🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Does it work with Zhiyun Crane 1? If not, what's compatible with it?
Thank U for video. That's close enough.
A truly existing camera. Great short.
I am so pleased that Nikon did not make any major changs - 24mp is enough for most photographers, and no major changes to the under interface. I think its going to sell very well. I love the new flippy screen, its much more versatile than the old tilt screen.
Everything on that left side dial might as well be in the menu system. Who of the testers was ok with this? Certainly no one hand holding a tele and wanting to change from U1 to U2 quickly.
Yeah, one certainly has to wonder sometimes if the people designing these cameras, actually know anything about photography
What ever happened to the NPS events that Chris hosted on Zoom. Those were great.
The cloud features sound great. Automatic updates. Uploading projects. Wow.
Nice review an fair.....
No, it won't take the art of our cultural experience, but make it harder for some to get paid for it, when you hear "it's just a click with PS AI " - like getting paid for image edits. Everything is termed AI right now, but when the dust settles we'll hopefully get useful tools for creatives to enhance workflows.
Along comes the Pentax 17 that proves there is fun in film photography (and style in carrying one). It's maybe too simplistic for some, but again, there's appeal in that.
Very underrated videos
Thank you for such a nice comment!
You mispronounced rhetoric.
They’re Easter eggs. The goal is to catch all the fun words I mispronounce.
Throughout the industrial revolution of the past 250+ years, any new technology has never lead to less work, it has only displaced work and usually for the better overall. I see AI as no different, from a printing press, a steam engine or a loom in our history. Will AI affect individuals who do more repetitive creative work? I am sure it will, in the same way we don't let monks copy book manuscripts, don't let horses drive our pumps and factories and don't hand-weave our fabrics anymore. But will it create new efficiencies that also create opportunities for creative people? I am sure it will too. It will affect those unable or unwilling to adapt, and to learn new skills, but will create opportunity to almost the same degree for others. And we do value the human touch and genuine skill. Has the drum computer replaced the drummer? To some extend, but to some extend certainly not.
Great comment & perspective, Edwin! Thank you!!
Great review I like the in field reviews. You shoot like I do. Down and dirty.
I see what you're saying about the help of AI and, in some cases, the loss of opportunities due to technology. I agree with this sentiment. I would also add that humans have inherited value, regardless if they create art or not because we’re made in the image of the ultimate Creator.
Thanks for the wonderful comment! 🙏🙏
You got to be the brother of some actor... I just can't come up with his name... or any movie he's been in. This drives me crazy.
To be fair in regards to RS: the FX3 has the ONE Sony sensor that doesn't suck in that regard (except for the new GS one, which is not video centric).. The FX3 does this by sacrificing resolution, the A9III by sacrificing DR. The GH7 should rather be compared with recent FFs around 24MP for RS. As somebody who had a GH6 until recently and now has an S5II... the RS is definitely much better than on the FF Panasonics. Which show's especially when it comes to burst mode photo.
I concur on the hoped-for upgrade to the EVA1!!!
1# goto Store thanks for everything you do.
Great review.
Thank you!!
Its not 7th time though, more like 9ish if Im correct. GH1 GH2 GH3 GH4 GH5 GH5S GH5 II GH6 GH7
Thank you for vigorously fact checking. :)
in the first upload of your video you mentioned the SDI output via flash sync socket. This would be such an awesome feature! Is this a feature they save for later or why you have to cut it out?
Sadly I was misinformed. The BNC link is only for jamming time code. I agree that it is a much needed feature.
YOU ARE A HERO. Thank you thank you thank you. Storytelling is top notch.
Thank you for the amazing comment!! 🙏🙏
Even perfectly balanced camera will tilt over when you tilt up or down, because the center of mass is above the axis of rotation (which is inside the head). The reason cameras stay in place is because of the counter balance system, head tugs in the opposite direction to compensate.
This vs the xh2S
Woah, what happend to your colour and highlights at 0:32?! That was weird and looked like suddenly the camera went from 5600K to 3200K and simultaneously over exposed by 3 stops.
Thanks for doing this. I have a GH6, a GH5 Mk2, and two GH5s. I have put the GH7 on my wish list. I have owned the GH3, the GH4 and the AF100.
From all these videos I'm seeing i will get a pre own a7iii. Looking to learn and get into street photography.
Good lighting and skill trump sensor size and camera brands. Panasonic, please release an LX100 III with PDAF and a manual zoom.
“Huge leap”? It’s what the GH6 should have e been.
This was a great video and interview. Well done! I have my first GFX coming in a few weeks with the 100S II and I’m so stoked.
The image does looks real nice. Going back to micro four thirds from full frame is like going back to an x girlfriend. Seems like fun but the are always headaches.
